Mobile window screen repair in Imperial Beach

We work in Imperial Beach constantly, and the screens here fail differently than they do eight miles inland. Salt air is the reason. Aluminum frames chalk and corrode, spline goes brittle, and fiberglass mesh loses its coating and starts shedding years before the same screen would fail in El Cajon. If you live within a few blocks of the water, you are not imagining it — your screens really do wear out faster.

That changes what we recommend. On oceanfront and near-oceanfront homes we push harder toward rebuilding the frame rather than re-screening a corroded one, because new mesh in a corroded frame is money spent twice. We will tell you honestly which of your screens are worth saving and which are not.

What we see most in Imperial Beach

• Corroded frames on the ocean side of the house. Street-facing screens are often fine while the west-facing ones are done. It is normal to rebuild half a house and re-screen the rest.
• Sliding screen doors on patios and balconies. Salt gets into the rollers and they seize. A door service — new mesh, rollers cleaned and lubricated, height reset — is $159 and usually fixes a door people assumed needed replacing.
• Bugs off the estuary. Homes near the Tijuana Slough get small insects that walk straight through standard mesh. Fine no-see-um mesh is a $30 upgrade per window screen and it is the right call on that side of town.
• Rental turnovers. A lot of IB property changes hands between tenants. We handle whole-unit screen sets in one visit and invoice the owner or manager directly.

All of Imperial Beach — Seacoast Drive and the beachfront blocks, Palm Avenue, the neighborhoods east toward 13th Street, the Bayside area, and out along the Silver Strand toward Coronado. We are in South Bay most days, so scheduling here is usually quick.

What it costs

Re-screening an existing window screen is $45 for a small screen under 20 inches, $65 for a midsize screen and $85 for anything over 50 inches. A new screen built to fit is $59 small, $89 midsize, $119 XL. Sliding screen door service is $159, and a new sliding screen door starts at $395. Our minimum service call is $159 and it is applied to the work, so if you have three or more screens you are past the minimum and paying only for the job.

Do screens really wear out faster near the beach?

Yes. Salt air corrodes aluminum frames and breaks down the coating on fiberglass mesh, so screens within a few blocks of the water typically need attention years sooner than the same screens inland. Ocean-facing screens on a house usually fail well before the street-side ones.

Is it worth re-screening a corroded frame?

Usually not. If there is any corrosion in the frame, we recommend replacing the frame as well. On corroded frames we recommend a new screen at $89 midsize or $119 XL rather than a $65 re-screen that will not hold.
