Sunset Cliffs and the ocean side
The streets above Sunset Cliffs take the worst of it. Salt spray carried on wind, no shelter, and constant damp. Frames pit and mesh coating gives up faster here than anywhere on the peninsula. On a pitted frame we recommend a new screen at $89 rather than re-screening a frame that will let go at the corners within a season.
Roseville, La Playa and the bay side
The bay side is gentler on frames but harder on doors. Almost every house down there has a slider facing the water, and those doors get used constantly. Rollers wear, the track packs with grit, and the door starts dragging. Screen door service is $159 and covers new mesh, cleaned and lubricated rollers and track, and a height adjustment — which is usually the whole fix.
Older homes with original openings
Much of Point Loma went up between the 1920s and the 1950s, and those houses have window openings that predate any standard screen size. We measure every screen on site and build it to the opening, so the fit is right rather than close. Crank-out casement windows, common in the older bungalows, need a lip frame at $169 per screen.
Liberty Station and the rentals
The area around Liberty Station and the old NTC has a high concentration of rentals and military moves. Whole-unit screen sets in one visit, invoiced to the owner or property manager, are routine for us and cheaper per screen than doing them piecemeal.

What it costs
Re-screening an existing window screen is $45 for a small screen under 15 inches, $65 standard and $85 for anything over 50 inches. A new screen built and installed is $59 small, $89 standard, $119 XL, and $169 for a casement with a lip frame. Sliding screen door service is $159; a new sliding screen door starts at $395. Mesh upgrades — pet-resistant, solar or fine no-see-um — are $30 per window screen and $60 per screen door. Our minimum service call is $159 and it is applied to the work, so three or more screens puts you past the minimum and paying only for the job.

My screens have gone loose and rattle. Do they need replacing?
Usually not. That is wind fatigue — the mesh works loose at the spline from being flexed all day, which happens far more on the peninsula than inland. Re-screening restores the tension for $65 on a standard screen.
Are the ocean-side screens really worse than the bay side?
Noticeably. Sunset Cliffs and the western streets get wind-driven salt spray with no shelter, so frames pit and mesh breaks down faster. The bay side is easier on frames but harder on sliding doors, because they get used constantly.
My patio slider is hard to move. Is it the door?
Almost never. It is worn rollers and a track full of grit. Screen door service is $159 and includes new mesh. For the heavy glass door, sliding glass door service is $245 with rollers at $39–$59 each.
Can you make screens for a 1930s house?
That is routine here. Every screen is measured on site and cut to the opening. Crank-out casements need a lip frame, which is $169 per screen.
