The valley and what flies in it
Homes near the Sweetwater River, the reservoir and the golf course get insects small enough to pass straight through standard fiberglass mesh. If you have been closing windows on a warm evening because the screens plainly aren’t stopping anything, that is the problem — and fine no-see-um mesh is the fix, at $30 more per window screen.
Mature trees bring their own issue: leaf litter and grit in the door tracks, which is what actually stops a slider running long before the door itself wears out.
Wide sliding doors on ranch homes
Bonita’s housing stock leans to single-storey ranch houses with wide patio openings. Those doors take decades of daily use. Rollers flatten, the bottom rail bows, the door starts lifting out of the track. Screen door service is $159 and covers new mesh, cleaned and lubricated rollers and track, and a height adjustment. A new sliding screen door, built to fit the existing track, starts at $395 and runs to $595 for a 60 by 96 inch opening — and Bonita has plenty of openings at the larger end.
Inland heat, no salt
Being off the coast has one clear advantage: no salt corrosion. Original aluminum frames out here are frequently still straight and sound after forty years, which means re-screening at $65 gives you a screen as good as new rather than throwing away a perfectly good frame.
What you get instead is heat. West-facing rooms take real afternoon sun, and solar mesh at $30 per screen makes a measurable difference without touching the windows themselves.

Mesh upgrades — pet-resistant, solar or fine no-see-um — are $30 per window screen and $60 per screen door. Our minimum service call is $159 and it is applied to the work, so three or more screens puts you past the minimum and paying only for the job.

Bonita questions we get
Bugs are getting through screens that look fine. Why?
Because standard fiberglass mesh has a wider weave than people expect, and the valley produces insects small enough to walk through it. The screen isn’t damaged, it’s the wrong gauge. Fine no-see-um mesh is $30 more per window screen and is the usual fix near the river and reservoir.
My patio slider keeps coming off its track. Do I need a new one?
Usually not. A bowed bottom rail and flattened rollers make a door ride up and jump out. The $159 screen door service covers new rollers, a cleaned and straightened track and a height adjustment. If the frame itself is finished, a new door built to your existing track starts at $395.
Are my forty-year-old screens worth saving?
Out here, often yes. Without coastal salt, original aluminum frames stay straight and sound far longer. If the frame is true, re-screening at $65 for a standard size gives you a screen as good as new.
Do you charge more to come out to Bonita?
No. Prices are the same across San Diego County and there is no trip fee. The minimum service call is $159 and it is applied to the work.
