Older homes, older frames
Ocean Beach is one of San Diego’s older neighborhoods, with a lot of housing built from the 1920s through the 1960s and a high share of rentals and multi-unit buildings. That means original aluminum frames that have sat a few blocks from the water for decades, with mesh last replaced on somebody else’s timeline rather than yours.
Salt air blowing straight off the ocean corrodes aluminum and breaks down the coating on standard fiberglass mesh years faster than it would inland. The frame is usually still straight, and it is the mesh that goes brittle and tears first, which is why re-screening is the right call on most OB jobs and the cheaper one.
We work on double-hung, sliding and casement windows, screen doors and sliding screen doors, and we are as comfortable quoting one rental unit as a whole building in the same visit.
What it costs
Prices are the same everywhere in our service area. Being a few blocks from the water adds nothing.
- Re-screen an existing frame: $45 under 20 inches, $65 from 20 to under 50 inches, $85 at 50 inches and over
- New window screen and frame: $59 / $89 / $119 at the same three sizes; casement with a lip frame $169
- Screen door service: $159 — new mesh, rollers cleaned and lubricated, the track cleaned, the door height re-set
- New sliding screen door: $395 up to 36″×80″, $495 up to 48″×96″, $595 up to 60″×96″
- Wall frame or U-channel repair, one side: $295
- Sliding glass patio door service: $245 up to 36″×80″, $345 over that; rollers $39–$59 each, most doors need two; fixed panel removal $100
- Mesh upgrades: +$29.95 per window screen, +$59.95 per screen door
There is a $159 minimum on any visit, applied to the work rather than stacked on top. One small screen still costs $159, so it pays to get every torn screen in the place done on one trip.
Rentals and multi-unit buildings
A lot of OB is rented, and a lot of it is small multi-unit buildings where every unit has the same windows. We quote whole buildings as one job and work to a turnover date when there is one.
If salt, kids or pets are getting through mesh faster than you would like, pet-resistant mesh is about seven times the tensile strength of standard fiberglass for $29.95 more per screen. For a patio opening you would rather have clear, we also fit Phantom retractable screens.
We warranty our labor for one year.

Ocean Beach screen questions
How much does window screen repair cost in Ocean Beach?
Re-screening an existing frame runs $45 to $85 depending on size, and a new screen and frame runs $59 to $119. There is a $159 minimum per visit, applied to the work, so doing several screens at once is the efficient way.
Is it worth re-screening an old frame or should I replace it?
In Ocean Beach most aluminum frames are still solid even after decades near the water, and it is the mesh that gives out first. We re-screen when the frame is straight and free of corrosion. If there is any corrosion at all, or the corners are coming apart, we recommend replacing the frame as well.
Do you work on rentals and multi-unit buildings?
Yes. We handle turnover screens for landlords and property managers as well as single-family homes, and can quote a whole building in one visit.
How fast can you get to Ocean Beach?
We are on the peninsula most weeks, so most jobs are scheduled within a few days of your call.
Can you fit pet-resistant or solar mesh?
Yes, for $29.95 more per window screen or $59.95 per screen door on top of the repair or new screen price.
Text a photo of the screen and we will quote it before we drive out.
