Built the same, street after street

Clairemont is one of San Diego’s largest postwar neighborhoods: about 81,600 residents across 13.3 square miles, developed fast from 1950, with as many as seven houses a day going up between 1952 and 1954. That pace left an unusually uniform stock of single-storey homes — the same aluminum window sections, the same sliding patio doors, repeated block after block.

Bay Park, the older subdivision within Clairemont, was approved in 1936 and has larger lots. Between Bay Ho, Bay Park, North Clairemont and Clairemont Mesa, we usually know the window and door sizes on a given street before we arrive, and most of those original frames are still straight enough to re-screen rather than replace.

What it costs

  • Re-screen an existing frame: $45 under 20 inches, $65 from 20 to under 50 inches, $85 at 50 inches and over
  • New window screen and frame: $59 / $89 / $119 at the same three sizes; casement with a lip frame $169
  • Screen door service: $159. That covers new mesh, rollers cleaned and lubricated, the track cleaned, and the door height re-set
  • New sliding screen door: $395 up to 36″×80″, $495 up to 48″×96″, $595 up to 60″×96″
  • Wall frame or U-channel repair, one side: $295
  • Sliding glass patio door service: $245 up to 36″×80″, $345 over that; rollers $39–$59 each and most doors need two
  • Mesh upgrades — pet-resistant, solar or fine no-see-um: +$29.95 per window screen, +$59.95 per screen door

Re-screen or replace, and the $159 minimum

If the aluminum frame is still straight, re-screening is the right call — new mesh in the frame you already have, starting at $45. We only recommend a new frame when the old one is bent, cracked at the corners or missing hardware, which is uncommon on the stock in this neighborhood.

What Clairemont and Bay Park do chew through is mesh, because of the sun. Homes with west- or south-facing windows take direct afternoon heat for hours, and standard fiberglass sags and tears years before a shaded window’s would. A solar mesh upgrade cuts the glare and heat without giving up the view.

Every visit has a $159 minimum, applied to the work rather than stacked on top. One small screen still comes to $159. Once you are past two or three, the minimum stops being the limiting factor, which is why most people here do the whole house at once.

“I was taught how to take the screen off and to place it back in. Easy. The workman was very efficient and had a positive attitude.”

Clairemont screen repair questions

How fast can you get to Clairemont or Bay Park?

We are in the area most weeks, so most requests get a same-week appointment. Call and we will give you the next open slot.

Do you replace the whole frame or just re-screen it?

Most Clairemont and Bay Park homes still have straight original aluminum frames, so a re-screen is usually enough. We only recommend a new frame when the old one is bent, cracked, or the corners have failed.

What if I have more than one screen that needs work?

The $159 minimum service call is applied to the work, not added on top, so several screens on one visit costs less per screen than doing just one.

Can you fit pet-resistant or solar mesh?

Yes. Pet-resistant, solar and fine no-see-um mesh are all available over standard fiberglass for $29.95 more per window screen.

Do you handle screen doors and sliding glass doors too?

Yes. Window screens, screen doors and sliding glass door service can all happen on the same visit.
