Phantom Retractable Screen Doors in Rancho Santa Fe

Rancho Santa Fe properties often have several different door openings — French, in-swing, oversized — and none of them match a stock size. Each gets measured on its own.

Custom Homes, Custom Openings

Rancho Santa Fe properties tend to be larger custom builds, often with several different door openings around the same house — a French pair here, an in-swing door there, an oversized entry somewhere else. None of them are likely to match a standard slider size, which is exactly the situation Phantom is built for. A house designed around several distinct indoor-outdoor connections usually ends up with several distinct screen problems, not one, which is part of why these jobs tend to involve more than a single door.

Every Opening Measured on Its Own

When a property has more than one opening that could use a retractable screen, we do not assume they match just because they are on the same house. Each one gets its own measurement, its own confirmation of frame condition, and its own build, even if two doors end up looking almost identical from across the room. It takes longer at the measure visit than a single-door job, but it means each screen actually fits the opening it is going on rather than an average of the two.

In-Swing and French Doors Are Exactly What This Solves

In-swing doors and French doors are two of the openings a conventional screen door manufacturer simply does not make a product for. Phantom is made to measure specifically because openings like these do not come in standard sizes, and a lot of Rancho Santa Fe homes have exactly this kind of door rather than a simple slider. It is not unusual for a property here to have one of each — a French pair off the dining room and an in-swing door off a casita or guest wing — which is exactly the mix a made-to-measure approach is built to handle.

What it costs

We publish our Phantom prices instead of making you sit through an appointment to hear one. A Phantom Legacy single door is $795 installed on an opening up to 48 inches wide. A double Phantom — two units meeting in the middle, which is what most French door and patio openings take — is $1,495 installed on an opening up to 96 inches. Phantom XL for wide multi-panel openings up to 15 feet, and motorized patio screens up to 40 feet, are quoted after we measure, because those openings vary too much to price off a chart. Service or repair on a retractable door already in place is $195 plus parts. Those are installed prices, not the cost of a unit shipped to your door. Phantom warranties every part of the unit except the mesh, and we warranty our labor for one year. See every Phantom model and price.

Timeline for Multiple Doors

The measure visit is usually scheduled within a few days of booking. From there, a standard-color single or double door is typically ready in about a week, an XL opening in about four weeks, and a special color order in about eight weeks. On a property with several doors, expect a mix of these timelines rather than one single date, especially if the doors differ in size or color. Anyone promising a full property of custom retractable doors installed within days is describing the measure visit, not the finished install. It is worth deciding up front whether every door needs to be finished at the same time or whether they can be installed as each one is ready.

One Relationship for Install and Service Going Forward

We cover Rancho Santa Fe and the rest of San Diego County every week, so the crew that installs your doors is the crew you would call back for service, whether that is one door or several. For comparison, a standard sliding screen door service runs $159 and a new conventional sliding door runs $395 to $595 — a Phantom door for a custom opening is a different, made-to-order product entirely. If the property also has conventional screens that just need repair, we can take care of those on the same visit rather than a separate appointment. What neighbors say

“Oscar did a fantastic job replacing my screens and rusted-out window hardware! I’ve been trying to find someone for several years to come to my house and replace old screens, as my windows themselves were fine. It was great because he came and made the screens right on site. He’s very professional and works quietly and neatly. The pricing was fair and the quality of the screens is excellent!”

Rancho Santa Fe Phantom Screen Questions

We have several different doors — can each be measured separately?

Yes, and that is how we do it regardless — each opening on a property is measured and built on its own, even if a few doors look similar from across the room.

What about an in-swing or oddly shaped entry door?

That is exactly the kind of opening Phantom is made for. Since it is built after measuring your actual door, an in-swing or unusually shaped entry is not a problem the way it would be for a stock screen door.

Can the frame color be matched across multiple doors?

Yes — we go over color and finish for each opening at the measure visit, and a standard color across several doors keeps the timeline consistent; a special color on any of them adds about eight weeks for that door.

What happens at the measure visit?

We walk the property with you, measure each opening individually, check frame condition, and talk through mesh and housing color for each door before anything is built.

Can you do more than one opening on the same property?

Yes — multiple doors on one property is a common job for us, and each one is measured, built, and installed on its own even when they are done around the same time.
