An open door without the sand and the bugs
Beach houses are built to catch the breeze, and most of Pacific Beach and Mission Beach has a slider or a set of doors onto a patio, a deck or a balcony. Leaving them open means sand, bugs and salt air straight through the house. A conventional screen door solves that but it is permanently in the way — and on the coast it is the component that corrodes first.
A retractable screen is only there when you pull it across. The rest of the time it is rolled into its housing, out of the weather and out of the view. On a west-facing beach property where the whole point is the outlook, that difference is the entire argument.

We publish our Phantom prices instead of making you sit through an appointment to hear one. A Phantom Legacy single door is $795 installed on an opening up to 48 inches wide. A double Phantom — two units meeting in the middle, which is what most French door and patio openings take — is $1,495 installed on an opening up to 96 inches. Phantom XL for wide multi-panel openings up to 15 feet, and motorized patio screens up to 40 feet, are quoted after we measure, because those openings vary too much to price off a chart. Service or repair on a retractable door already in place is $195 plus parts. Those are installed prices, not the cost of a unit shipped to your door. What to expect on timing
This is made to measure, so the honest timeline matters more than a fast promise.
- The measure visit happens within a few days. That is the part that is quick.
- About a week for a standard-color single or double, after measuring.
- About four weeks for an XL opening.
- About eight weeks for a special color.
Anyone quoting you a custom retractable door installed in a few days is describing the measure visit, not the install.
