Phantom Retractable Screen Doors in 4S Ranch

4S Ranch doors open and close all day with kids and dogs moving through them. A retractable screen is a screen — here is what that does and does not mean for your household.

Doors That Open and Close All Day

4S Ranch is full of newer family homes where the back door or slider gets used constantly — kids running out to the yard, dogs going in and out, groceries coming through. A screen that has to be manually opened and shut every time gets left open more often than not, which defeats the point of having one. A Phantom screen pulls across and lets go in one motion, which fits that kind of traffic better than a hinged door that has to be latched to actually keep bugs out.

It Is a Screen, Not a Pet Barrier — Here Is What That Means

We will say this plainly: a Phantom retractable screen is a mesh screen, the same as any screen door, and it is not built to be a barrier against a dog that is determined to push through it. If you have a larger dog or one that has gone through screens before, tell us at the measure visit so we can talk through whether a retractable door is the right fit for that opening, or whether it makes more sense for a different door in the house.

Fits Openings Standard Screens Do Not

Beyond the pet question, Phantom solves openings that conventional screens are not made for at all — French doors, wide sliders, single entry doors that never had a screen option. It is made to measure, built after we have the exact dimensions of your opening rather than chosen from a handful of stock sizes.

What the Measure Visit Covers

At the visit we measure the opening, check the frame, and talk through how the door actually gets used day to day — that is where a conversation about kids, dogs, or high traffic belongs, before anything gets built. Our Phantom prices are published rather than held back for an appointment: $795 installed for a single door up to 48 inches, $1,495 for a double up to 96 inches, and a quote after measuring for anything wider.

What it costs

We publish our Phantom prices instead of making you sit through an appointment to hear one. A Phantom Legacy single door is $795 installed on an opening up to 48 inches wide. A double Phantom — two units meeting in the middle, which is what most French door and patio openings take — is $1,495 installed on an opening up to 96 inches. Phantom XL for wide multi-panel openings up to 15 feet, and motorized patio screens up to 40 feet, are quoted after we measure, because those openings vary too much to price off a chart. Service or repair on a retractable door already in place is $195 plus parts. Those are installed prices, not the cost of a unit shipped to your door. Phantom warranties every part of the unit except the mesh, and we warranty our labor for one year. See every Phantom model and price.

Timeline

The measure visit itself is usually within a few days of booking. A standard-color single or double door is typically ready in about a week after that, an XL opening in about four weeks, and a special color order in about eight weeks. Anyone promising a custom retractable door measured and installed in a couple of days is describing the measure visit, not the finished job. That gap is worth planning around if you are hoping to have it in place for a specific event or before a specific season.

Same Crew for Install and Any Repairs Later

We cover 4S Ranch and the rest of San Diego County every week, so the crew that installs your Phantom door is the one you would call if the mesh ever needs attention later. For comparison, a standard sliding screen door service runs $159 and a new conventional sliding door runs $395 to $595 — a Phantom door is a different, made-to-order product. What happens when you call

  1. Book a measure visit.
  2. Tell us about your household — kids, dogs, how the door gets used — so we can set expectations before we measure.
  3. Install follows the honest timeline: about a week standard, longer for XL or a special color.

4S Ranch Phantom Screen Questions

Will it stop our dog from getting through it?

Not necessarily — it is a mesh screen, not a pet barrier, and a large or determined dog can push through it the same as any screen door. Tell us about your dog at the measure visit so we can talk through whether this opening is the right one for a retractable screen.

Is it durable enough with kids running in and out all day?

It holds up to normal daily use — kids going in and out, the screen being pulled across and back repeatedly — which is the situation it is designed for. It is still a screen, though, not something to be climbed on or slammed.

How much does it cost?

The measure visit confirms the width, the model and the fit — it is not where you first hear a number. A standard sliding screen door service, for comparison, runs $159, and a new conventional sliding door runs $395 to $595.

What happens at the measure visit?

We measure the opening, check the frame, and talk through how the door is actually used day to day — including kids, dogs, and traffic — before anything is built.

Do you have anyone who speaks Spanish?

Yes, hablamos español. Call (619) 330-5221 and we can handle the whole conversation, from booking the measure visit through the install, in Spanish.
