New Window Screens in Coronado

A new screen and frame is $59 small, $89 midsize and $119 at 50 inches and over. Coronado takes salt off the water on both sides, and if there is any corrosion in the frame at all we recommend replacing the frame as well. That is our rule everywhere, and Coronado is simply where most frames meet it.

New window screen and frame fitted at a waterfront home in Coronado

The hardest place in the county on a screen

Coronado is surrounded by water on both sides with wind running the length of the Silver Strand, so screens here take salt from two directions at once. It is the harshest screen environment in San Diego County, and it shows up as corroded, chalky aluminum and mesh that fails well before it would anywhere else on our route.

There is a lot of turnover here too. Military rotation and vacation rentals mean owners and property managers need screens sorted quickly and reliably, often across a whole property at once rather than one window at a time.

Our rule on corroded frames, and why Coronado meets it so often

The rule is the same everywhere we work, and it is short: if there is any corrosion in the frame at all, we recommend replacing the frame as well. Not corrosion that has eaten through, not corrosion past some threshold we get to judge at your window — any corrosion. Below that line, a frame that is straight and clean gets re-screened at $45 to $85, because it is cheaper and the result is the same.

That rule is why our advice reads differently here. Coronado is not a special case with its own policy; it is the place where the most frames fall on the replace side of the same line. Salt from both sides of the island puts frames there years sooner than anywhere else on our route, so where a Chula Vista house might have one frame worth replacing, a Coronado house often has most of them.

New mesh in a corroded frame is money you end up spending twice, so we would rather tell you that standing at the window than take the easier sale. It also works the other way: if your frames are clean, you will get the $65 re-screen recommendation here exactly as you would anywhere else.

Whole-house sets are common here for the same reason. Once one or two frames have gone, the rest are rarely far behind, and doing them together in one visit costs less than piecemeal repairs across a year.

What it costs

  • New window screen and frame: $59 under 20 inches, $89 from 20 to under 50 inches, $119 at 50 inches and over
  • Casement window with a lip frame: $169
  • Re-screening, where the frame is still sound: $45 / $65 / $85
  • Screen door service: $159 — new mesh, rollers, track and height
  • New sliding screen door: $395 up to 36″×80″, $495 up to 48″×96″, $595 up to 60″×96″
  • Wall frame or U-channel repair, one side: $295
  • Mesh upgrades: +$29.95 per window screen, +$59.95 per screen door

Given how fast standard mesh fails on the island, the upgrade mesh is worth considering here more than anywhere else — it holds up longer against the same salt that is driving the frame replacement. There is a $159 minimum applied to the work, which a whole-house set clears easily.

We warranty our labor for one year.

What neighbors say

“Oscar did a fantastic job replacing my screens and rusted-out window hardware! I’ve been trying to find someone for several years to come to my house and replace old screens, as my windows themselves were fine. It was great because he came and made the screens right on site. He’s very professional and works quietly and neatly. The pricing was fair and the quality of the screens is excellent!”

Coronado new screen questions

Why would I need a new frame instead of just re-screening?

On Coronado, salt from both sides of the island corrodes frames far faster than anywhere else we work. If there is any corrosion in a frame at all, we recommend replacing the frame as well rather than re-screening it. It is money you end up spending twice. Once a frame has reached that point a new screen and frame is the better value.

How much does a new window screen cost?

A new window screen and frame is $59, $89 or $119 depending on size, or $169 for a casement window with a lip frame. There is a $159 minimum per visit, applied to the work.

Can you do a whole house in one visit?

Yes. Whole-house sets are common in Coronado and we schedule them as a single visit rather than window by window.

Do you work with property managers and vacation rental owners?

Yes. Military rotation and vacation rentals mean a lot of turnover work here, and we are used to scheduling around changeovers.

Is there a mesh that holds up better against the salt?

Pet-resistant and solar mesh are both sturdier than standard fiberglass, for $29.95 more per window screen or $59.95 per screen door.
