Pet-resistant mesh adds $30 to a window screen or $60 to a screen door, and it’s roughly seven times stronger than the standard fiberglass mesh your dog or cat is currently pushing through.

Standard screen doesn’t stand a chance against a dog or cat
Standard fiberglass window screen is built to keep bugs out and stay out of the way — it isn’t built to take a shoulder or a set of claws. A dog leaning on a screen to look out the window, or a cat pushing through to get to a sill, pops standard mesh out of the spline groove or tears it outright. If you’re re-screening or replacing a screen anyway and you’ve got a pet in the house, it’s worth putting in something tougher the first time instead of doing the same repair again next year.
What pet-resistant mesh actually is
It’s a vinyl-coated polyester mesh, roughly seven times stronger than standard fiberglass. It resists tearing from claws and holds up to a dog pushing its weight against it far better than fiberglass ever will. We’ll be straight with you on the trade-offs: it’s slightly darker to look and see through than standard screen, and a determined cat can still climb it, so it’s not indestructible — it’s a real upgrade in durability, not a guarantee against every pet.
North Park and Normal Heights homes have odd window sizes
A lot of the housing stock in North Park, Normal Heights, University Heights, and Kensington is 1920s and 1930s Craftsman and Spanish-style bungalows, and those windows often don’t match anything you’d find pre-made. We measure and build each screen frame on site to fit the actual opening, rather than trying to force a stock size into an original window that’s a half-inch off in every direction.
Pricing for pet-resistant upgrades
Pet-resistant mesh is a flat $30 add-on to a window screen and $60 to a screen door, on top of the base repair or replacement. Re-screening an existing frame runs $45 to $85 by size, and a new screen with frame runs $59 to $169. See full pricing for every size.
Screen doors take the heaviest use from pets
A sliding screen door usually gets more pet pressure than any window, since it’s the door a dog waits at. Our standard screen door service — new mesh, rollers cleaned and lubed, track cleaned, door re-hung — is $159, and pet-resistant mesh adds the flat $60 on top.
One visit across North Park, Normal Heights, University Heights, and Kensington
We’re mobile and come to you, and most jobs are measured and finished the same visit. The $159 minimum service call is applied to the work itself, so it’s worth having every screen a pet has access to upgraded at once rather than one at a time.
We warranty our labor for one year.

Pet-Resistant Screens in North Park — Common Questions
Will pet-resistant mesh really stop my dog?
It holds up far better than standard fiberglass — it’s roughly seven times stronger and resists a dog leaning or pushing on it — but no screen is guaranteed against every determined pet.
Can cats still get through or climb pet-resistant mesh?
A cat can still climb it since it’s a woven mesh, not a barrier. What it does resist well is claws snagging and tearing the material, which is the main way standard fiberglass fails.
How much more does pet-resistant mesh cost?
It’s a flat $30 upgrade per window screen and $60 per screen door, added to the base re-screen or replacement price.
My windows are odd sizes — I have an old Craftsman house — can you still fit a screen?
Yes. We build each frame on site to match your actual window opening rather than using pre-made stock sizes, which is the normal approach for older North Park and Normal Heights homes.
Does pet mesh block the view or light?
It’s slightly darker to look through than standard screen because of the vinyl coating, but it doesn’t meaningfully block light coming into the room.
Do you install pet-resistant mesh on screen doors too?
Yes, it’s available on sliding screen doors as part of our standard $159 door service for a flat $60 upgrade.
